Serene Kwek

Serene has over 20 years of hospitality industry and customer service experience, having worked with prestigious international hotel chains such as The Shangri-La Group and as a public servant with the Ministry of Manpower.

Throughout her career as a hotelier, she effectively led and managed the hotel’s catering team, and accumulated extensive experience in handling all types of event guests, large tour groups, conventions, and even F&B operations. Her expertise in these areas earned her numerous accolades, including multiple EXSA STAR awards presented by the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA).

During the height of the pandemic, Serene’s passion for serving the community led her to join the Ministry of Manpower as an Advisory Manager, where she had the opportunity to assist the public in resolving their cases and provide advisories for workforce related issues. This role allowed her to enhance her problem-solving abilities and develop strong case management skills, further deepening her commitment to delivering exceptional service. Serene’s contribution to service excellence was affirmed by the Ministry when she received the MOM Outstanding Customer Service Award 2023.

Serene holds an Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) from the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL). She is also a Certified Emergenetics Associate who uses the Emergenetics profiling tool to empower individuals with self-awareness, emotional intelligence and personal effectiveness in order to build stronger teams using cognitive diversity to improve collaboration, communication and productivity.

A strong believer in paying it forward, Serene is an adjunct trainer with Shatec Institutes, where she imparts her knowledge to the younger generation of hoteliers. Her expertise in teaching critical soft skill modules lies in delivering engaging and interactive classroom sessions that help students develop their leadership skills, improve their communication capabilities, and enhance their decision-making abilities.

Serene also volunteers with Daughters of Tomorrow (DOT), a non-profit organisation by conducting volunteer training in personal effectiveness for women from the lower socio-economy to enable them for job placements.

Serene is a strong advocate for learning and believes that one should never stop acquiring knowledge. As a trainer, she is dedicated to creating engaging learning experiences that inspire growth, enhance performance, and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement for learners in their learning journey.
