Shaping the future of learning with AI
Held at the Lifelong Learning Institute on 13 April 2024 with a session in the morning and afternoon, over 400 learners were introduced to Generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Leonardo.ai and D-ID all with the purpose of understanding how these tools worked and how to incorporate them into everyday life.
At the start of each session, our special guest and co-host of the workshop, Jack Neo, took to the stage introducing learners to the basic concept of AI, the benefits in using them as well as its prominence in today’s digital world. After his passionate talk on why using AI would be a useful tool for the silver generation to use, he handed the floor over to FirstCom Academy trainer, Daryl Kang.

Real-World Applications of AI
Daryl Kang, an ACLP-certified trainer and former Art Director with over 10 years of experience in the digital marketing and content creation industry, took learners on a journey of introducing them to the world of AI tools and the possibilities they possess.

While Daryl was explaining the theory behind Leonardo.ai with his slides, Jack Neo would add on by asking him to demonstrate creating AI-generated images. For example, he asked Daryl to enter the prompt ‘dragon eating durian’ and indeed a dragon snacking on the king of fruits appeared on screen.

This sequence of Jack Neo adding value to Daryl’s slides continued back and forth, engaging learners as the renowned local film director would regularly walk in between seats to further explain in Mandarin or Hokkien the steps involved when wanting to generate an image that meets your expectations.
After explaining the difference between ChatGPT 3.5 and 4.0, Daryl demonstrated how he had used the AI tool to plan his itinerary in Japan. In order to get high-quality content from ChatGPT, he introduced the CIDO method, a structured approach on how to phrase the correct prompts to get desired results.
Towards the end of each session, Daryl would ask the question, “Would AI replace humans?” Some people nodded while others disagreed, voicing their opinion that machines could never replace humans. They were on the right track as Daryl went onto the next slide and emphasised that yes, AI could never replace humans but humans with AI tools and knowledge will, ultimately highlighting the importance of understanding AI.
How AI Can Help Outside of Work
As the adoption of AI is increasing everyday, it’s paramount to know what it is and how to use it to help make everyday life a bit easier. By understanding how AI works, you can unlock its potential to streamline your tasks. For example, using ChatGPT to help you generate creative ideas, craft compelling messages and emails and maybe even help plan your next trip overseas.

Once the workshop concluded (and learners filled up their tummies with lunch or dinner!), learners could be seen talking to our team of Education Consultants inside the event hall to learn more about our courses. We introduced other relevant one or two day courses like AI content creation, cyber security awareness and an introduction to digital marketing and also explained to them the enrollment process.
